Keep track of your coding times

DisTrack is a lightweight productivity companion that tracks your VS Code sessions, turns them into clean insights, and brings the results to life inside Discord. It’s built for devs who want accountability without friction and communities that thrive on friendly competition.

What DisTrack does

  • Automatic session tracking: The VS Code extension quietly records active editor time from launch to close—no manual start/stop buttons, no commands to remember.
  • Real-time presence in Discord: A connected Discord bot posts embeds and summaries so you (and your server) can see who’s coding, for how long, and how the leaderboard is shifting.
  • Leaderboards with momentum: Daily snapshots power trend arrows and position deltas, so it’s obvious who’s climbing, who’s cruising, and who just pulled an all-nighter.
  • Sharable profile cards: Generate crisp, minimal embed images that highlight display name, total coding time, and current rank. They scale well in Discord and look good on profile channels or project hubs.
  • Community-first design: Whether you’re a study group, an open-source squad, or a bootcamp cohort, DisTrack creates a gentle nudge to show up and ship—together.

How it works

  1. Install the VS Code extension. It logs active editor time locally while you work.
  2. Send sessions to DisTrack. The extension posts session metadata to your backend and the Discord bot (no source code content is collected).
  3. Watch the boards move. DisTrack maintains a daily baseline at midnight and compares hourly snapshots to surface rank changes and trends.
  4. Share your grind. Use the image/Embed endpoint to render a minimal card for Discord that always looks clean and readable.

Key features

  • Zero-friction time capture: Tracks by presence in VS Code—ideal for long coding blocks and quick bugfix sprints alike.
  • Daily/rolling views: Today’s board resets at midnight with snapshot comparisons; longer-range views help you see consistency over time.
  • Trend deltas: Up/down/no-change indicators based on position shift since the daily baseline.
  • Minimal, legible embeds: Built for Discord’s canvas—no noisy stats, just the essentials.
  • Premium customisation (optional): Add two extra, configurable cards to your embed (e.g., achievement badges, top language, number of languages used, or “Top X% on DisTrack”).
  • Ops-friendly: Clean separation between client (extension), API, and bot so each piece can evolve without breaking the others.

Data & privacy (plain English)

  • Collected: Session timings (start/end), calculated duration, and basic client metadata needed to attribute activity to your account.
  • Not collected: Your source code contents or file text. DisTrack cares about time spent, not what you typed.
  • Control: Clear opt-out and data-deletion paths are part of the design ethos; your data should be portable and easy to remove.

Who it’s for

  • Solo devs who want a lightweight record of their focus time.
  • Study circles & clubs that benefit from positive peer pressure.
  • Open-source teams coordinating across time zones.
  • Hackathons & cohorts where visibility and energy matter.

Design language

DisTrack’s visual identity is edgy, retro, and minimal—with a rainbow accent that hints at layered functionality. The embeds mirror that vibe: bold typography, lots of white/negative space, and just enough colour to make the signal pop in a busy Discord channel.

Integrations

  • Discord: Deep, first-class support via the DisTrack bot for announcements, embeds, and leaderboards.
  • VS Code: Automatic tracking from launch to exit—no extra ceremony.

Why DisTrack stands out

  • Signal over noise: It captures the metrics that matter for showing up consistently—without turning into a surveillance tool.
  • Community heartbeat: The daily reset and deltas make momentum visible, which is a powerful motivator.
  • Share-ready artifacts: The embed system turns your effort into something you can post with pride.

Quick implementation notes

  • Client: VS Code extension that records active editor time and posts to your API.
  • Server: Receives sessions, computes aggregates, and renders shareable images for Discord embeds.
  • Bot: Reads summaries from the API, posts updates, and exposes leaderboard commands.

Roadmap highlights (public-safe)

  • Richer analytics: Streaks, weekly summaries, and calendar heatmaps to visualise consistency.
  • Badges over achievements: Keep it lightweight and motivating without gamified grind.
  • Flexible sign-in: Alternatives beyond Discord for broader adoption.
  • Org/team views: Private boards for companies, classes, and hackathons.

Premium perks

  • Two customisable embed cards (badges, top language, language count, or percentile rank).
  • Early access to new analytics views and board types.
  • Vanity profile card themes aligned with the brand aesthetic.
