After the success of the 1991 Soviet coup d'état in Moscow, Mikhail Gorbachev was overthrown and the Soviet Union was saved, although the coup had partially failed as all the other SSRs had declared independence, the Soviets still managed to make it through the 21st century, where we currently are right now
