The University of Franklin, founded in 1792 by the then-Governor of the State, Colonel John Sevier, is one of the most prestigious universities in the US in the world. Initially for training administrators for the newly-formed state, the University of Franklin adopted an enlightened and welcoming environment, quickly attracting the most prominent experts of academia. Already in 1801, it had become one of the most important centres of research and education the country, consequently becoming one of the main sources of revenue for the Commonwealth. In 1852, the University became one of now 7 US senior military colleges, forming its own Corps of Cadets.
UF, as it's now commonly called, is public research university with a variety of educational offers. It is consistently found in the top 1% of academic rankings. Its faculty is renowned worldwide and frequently travels as visiting professors to other institutions. It boasts along its alumni many prominent statesmen, scholars, and entrepreneurs.
