After the Hale fire, Peter Hale was in a coma for four years, in which the recently turned Alpha, Laura Hale, moved to New York to escape the dangers that could still exist in Beacon Hills. When Peter woke up, he chose to be an Omega rather than go to join his Alpha, disagreeing with her actions while he was incapacitated.

Deucalion Blackwood decided to use his skills and Alpha's charm to become a professor at college, taking in strays if needed. His first stray? Peter Hale.
