When the alien invaders descended upon the earth in 2015, XCOM stood as the humanities last line of defense to drive them back from where they came from, but it was not meant to be. With the alien invaders swiftly subjugating all of the Earths nations, under a single puppet state: ADVENT

With ADVENT in place, they successfully quelled most unrest and retaliatory efforts using brutal and inhumane tactics, which continue to this day. With the ADVENT regime reigning un-opposed for 20 years, things looked bleak. But when the remnants of XCOM recovered their Commander and found the Avenger, a retrofitted alien supply barge, XCOM rose from the ashes and spread it's wings once more.

With the planet fed up with the ADVENT regime, a small but loyal part of humanity, bitter over their losses and the horrifying reign of terror, gave all that rage and hate, but even more importantly, gave unity and life to XCOM once more. With the war raging on, now even some aliens have defected the organization to join the XCOM in their fight, as the true enemy are the puppetmasters themselves.
