Knightguild

Knightguild is a play-by-email originally based on the Midgard play-by-mail game run in the 1980s and '90's by Delta Games, but is now being developed into a different game.

Whereas Midgard was a strategic wargame, Knightguild is being redesigned to deliver a range of game experiences to match players' different playing styles and activity preferences. It will still deliver combats for those who prefer wargaming, but it will also cater for those that prefer building, or exploring, or diplomacy, or trading, or covert actions etc.

The game ended its Beta phase in July 2022 and development is continuing to add more features to deliver additional game experiences.

Current features include:

• writing of orders into an excel template that provides up-front validation checking, writing in game messages, and 'Special Actions'.
• upload of the excel order files via the game's website.
• automated validation checking and acknowledgement of the orders, and relevant feedback provided in an automated email sent back to the player.
• three types of positions: clans, expeditionary forces and cities.
• a wide range of actions.
• Character Special Actions, in which players may attempt activities not catered for by the automated 'front page' orders, often as character roleplaying (though roleplaying is not required). These are processed manually and responded to by the GMs.
• Player Seniors, who are players that help organise and assist players who've declared allegiance to the in-game faction that Player Senior is responsible for. This is particularly helpful for new players.
• GM Seniors, where a GM plays the role of Faction Leader and provides guidance to the Player Seniors on faction's strategic priorities.
• turns are run monthly, and the turn result files are emailed to players as PDFs.
• an active Discord server with regular discussion and scheduled voice meetings with the GMs.
