Hello everyone. My name is Jimmi and I am the Project Lead here at SiennaNation. Even though I am not the Community Manager, I decided that it’s time to give you an explanation about what happened with the website and where we are heading in the future. In this message, I would like to talk about the issues we faced, the disabling of multiple features, the lack of updates, the errors that appeared, and also a bit about our lack of transparency. There are many things to talk about, and honestly, I don’t even know where to start while trying to present everything as clearly as possible. The Discord bot was created on February 2nd, 2019. It started as a bot made for my own server and at that time it only had a music function, nothing more. I had no programming experience, so I decided to build my own bot using YouTube tutorials available at that time, as well as a Steam application called Discord Bot Maker. On February 2nd, the SiennaNation project was born, the one you still see today. Back then, I decided I needed more features such as Twitch and YouTube alerts, as well as a giveaway plugin. As those features were added, more people became interested in adding the bot, and its popularity started growing. Because of the limitations at that time, I decided to build a dashboard using PHP and MySQL, since those were the technologies I was most comfortable with. I managed to move the application from .ini files to MySQL and connect it to the dashboard. Over time, the popularity kept growing, but my lack of experience showed through missing updates, unresolved persistent issues, and lack of optimization. By 2026, we reached 29 plugins and pages that need maintenance, all still running on the same unstable structure from 2020. Many current features were originally designed for a limited number of users and servers, not the 1117 servers and nearly 1 million users we have today. On January 3rd, 2026, we started migrating from MySQL to PostgreSQL due to the many issues we were facing. As of January 26th, the migration is about 70% complete. However, the problems didn’t stop there. We are still dealing with issues ranging from multiple open connections to functions running in loops, and even duplicate functions written 2–4 times. Many important features such as alerts for TikTok, Reddit, Twitter (X), Instagram, and Brawl Stars features have been disabled for quite some time. The reason is simple, these integrations break very fast and I have not been able to keep up with platform changes. Many people are probably wondering when a major update will come, when suggestions from Discord or email will be considered, and why there haven’t been consistent updates for a long time. The answer is simply lack of time and lack of funding for new APIs. The last API we purchased was Reddit, under a 6-month contract. It expired, and the developer removed it from RapidAPI, leaving us with another broken feature. The Instagram situation is very similar. I don’t want anyone to think this is me complaining, I just want to explain what is happening and what will happen next. As a gamer myself, one thing I hate is lack of transparency from developers. I always tried not to be like that, but unfortunately I didn’t always succeed. I want to improve that going forward. Finally, I want to remind everyone that SiennaNation is a free project. We have a donation page where you can help support development: https://ko-fi.com/siennanation Every donation helps us continue.
