A few years after humans have perfected and gain complete space travel they have discovered an artifact lost deep down in the Atlantic Ocean. It was not of earth. Bringing it out to space activated it. It acted as some sort of compass. Humanity assigned a small human fleet called “Element 5 1997” Element 5 discovered a large space station. The fleet docked the station and discovered they weren’t the only ones in this Galaxy. 

Plenty more species have experienced the same thing humanity has experienced. As soon as they perfected their own version of travel an artifact on their home planet activated and lead them here.

It’s been a 456 years since humanity has found the station. The station is referred to as “Element” in remembrance of the Element 5. Only called that by humans of course. Most species have their own name for it. It’s a meeting space for many species and is treated as a city of its own. Due to its size and how many researchers come to study it. It almost acts like a Galactic Government, but it’s not completely established. It’s an alliance of some sorts. In case any new species seems immediately hostile. It’s a place of peace.

Outside, conflicts still happen. But that’s for each their own. There is endless stories amongst the endless stars.
