After a far bloodier WW1 (Left open ended as to why it is worse for players to decide, but I can provide recommendations), the west and by extension world at large becomes more reliant on a USA still ill-prepared to carry the global economy on its back. Though some struggles are seen in the 20's, nothing could have prepared the world for the total collapse that would occur at the end of the decade. Not a recession, not a depression, but a total, unequivocal collapse of government seen few times in history and never before to this extent.

Some regions quickly turned to salvaging what they could, establishing provisional regimes to restore the old order. Others succumbed to moral panic or mass hysteria, seeing their livelihoods collapse before their very eyes. New ideas born and old ones crushed in an instant, these disturbed regimes are referred to as 'Crazed' by what remains of the civilized world.
